Rudy B. Mora | For Sheriff

ABOUT

Rudy B. Mora was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. He has deep family roots in Bernalillo County’s South Valley and East Mountains. Rudy is a twenty-six year veteran in law enforcement and has demonstrated a progressively responsible record of experience beginning with the New Mexico State Police (DPS), moving on to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and then the tribal community of the Pueblo of Laguna. While at DPS, he worked in the Uniform Patrol Division, Investigations Bureau and Special Operations Bureau, in assignments ranging from security during the New Mexico Legislature in our State’s Capitol Rotunda to fighting crime. As Undersheriff for Bernalillo County, he has experience in every area of the Sheriff’s Office, including Administration, Operations and Internal Affairs. Under general direction, he assisted in planning, organizing, and directing the many highly detailed activities of the entire Sheriff's Office.  As Chief of Police under the authority of the Pueblo of Laguna, his scope was under the strict guidelines of the Constitution of the Pueblo of Laguna, adhering to Pueblo Ordinances at every level. He was entrusted to provide leadership, deploy manpower, and provide direction for the efficient operation of the Laguna Police Department. Rudy has been honored with multiple awards ranging from State Police Officer of the year, Top Cop for the State of New Mexico, Top Cop for the United States Honorable Mention, a two-time awardee of the US Drug Enforcement Administration Award, Outstanding Drug Interdiction Award, New Mexico State Police Distinguished Service Award and New Mexico State Police Meritorious Achievement Award. He has also been honored with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Leadership Award. In 2018, he was inducted into the National Criminal Interdiction “Hall of Fame.”   He served as an adjunct instructor for the International Association of Chiefs of Police and has provided instruction to over 8,000 law enforcement officers throughout the United States, Mexico, and Costa Rica. In 2021, he was recognized by ‘Who’s Who’ for his leadership in law enforcement. Rudy has proven leadership skills with a focus on hard work, professionalism and dedicated public service to the citizens of the State of New Mexico. Increasingly, the rights and interests of law enforcement have been subject of legislative, executive and judicial actions across our nation.  Rudy has spent countless hours serving as a role model and first-hand example of the work ethic needed to educate and influence the course of public affairs where law enforcement interests are concerned.

The rising level of violent crime and drug abuse in recent years is a warning sign that we must do more to make our community safer.
